Synopsis: (By Sea Witch)

A submarine cruises through the depths of the ocean.   In its torpedo bay an alarm sounds and two Russian submariners rush to investigate.  A fault has occurred with one of the torpedo tubes and it has filled with seawater.  They pump the tube dry and are about to return to their posts when they hear a metallic tapping sound.  The sound is emanating from the troublesome torpedo tube.  One of the submariners cranks the tube open and shines a torch inside.   Something is lurking in the shadows.  A Replicator leaps out and attacks the hapless Russian.  Cut to opening credits.

Doctor Janet Fraiser is examining Daniel Jackson’s still tender appendectomy scar.  They are discussing the installation of the gate originally found in Antarctica (during "Solitudes"), a replacement for the one lost when Thor’s ship, the Biliskner, crashed into the pacific ocean.  Technical difficulties have delayed the installation but they have finally been overcome.  Janet tells Daniel he’s fine but is advised to take it easy.  An alarm sounds and the duty technician announces an off world activation.  Forgetting Janet’s advice Daniel leaps off the examination table and races to the gate room.

General Hammond enters the control room where he is informed SG-1’s code has been received.  Armed guards rush into the gate room.  SG-1 have been out of contact for some time and no one can be certain who will step through the gate.  The wormhole forms and Daniel arrives just in time to see Jack O’Neill, Sam Carter and Teal’c walk through the gate.  They all look disheveled.  Jack is annoyed because he and the others have been trying to return home for over a week after having successfully gated off the crippled and dying Biliskner.  The seriously injured Thor, encased in a stasis pod and rescued by SG-1, was collected by his own people and is assumed to be alive.  For some reason the Asgard left SG-1 stranded but safe.  Jack requests he, Sam and Teal’c debrief after a long hot shower.  General Hammond insists upon it since the three of them are rather fragrant having worn the same clothes for over a week.

“Bad?” Jack asks of Daniel.
“I wasn’t going to say anything,” Daniel replies with a smirk.

Jack and Sam leave the gate room, as does Teal’c but not before scowling at Daniel for his insensitivity.  Daniel isn’t given a chance to enquire about Teal’c’s curious strip of chin hair.

Showered and rested, Sam stares at a piece of Replicator through a magnifying glass.  It is one of two pieces retrieved from the Biliskner’s oceanic crash site.  Jack joins her and expresses concern because he is aware the “Bugs” can rebuild themselves after being blasted into their component parts.  Sam assures him the bits of Bug are not emitting any discernible energy.  She doesn’t believe two pieces pose a threat.  Jack, eager to continue the conversation so rudely interrupted more than a week ago, asks Sam for her company on his delayed fishing trip.  She smiles and declines.  Her ‘phone rings.  General Hammond informs her that Major Davis is on his way from the Pentagon.  Jack resignedly adjusts himself to the fact the fish will have to do without him for a while longer.

Later, in the briefing room, Major Davis shows them the schematics for a submarine and hands every member of SG-1 a file.  He explains that the Navy received a mayday from a Russian Foxtrot class submarine (sub), codenamed Blackbird.  The sub reported being under attack from a mechanical spider.  Shortly afterwards the sub surfaced and nothing more was heard from the crew.  The aircraft carrier, Nimitz, cruising in the area, presumably whilst investigating the crash of the Biliskner, answered the mayday, sent a boarding party aboard the sub and discovered all the crew to be dead.  A photograph taken by one of the boarding party shows the mechanical spider to be a Replicator.  Sam announces that the Bug has already begun to replicate.  Davis admits the Russians are suspicious about the fate of their submarine.  They have no idea their sub has been towed into a US harbor.  SG-1 learns that the harbor area has been evacuated and cordoned off, and they are alarmed to discover the Pentagon want a couple of specimen Bugs.  Jack cautions Davis against this notion pointing out that the Asgard, with their superior technology, have failed to contain the Bug threat.  Better to bomb the sub and destroy the Bugs.  Sam reminds Jack that at least one Bug escaped the destruction of the Biliskner, a massive explosion.  Jack is undeterred and suggests the sub be nuked to make sure.  Unfortunately, the Bug-infested sub isn’t the only problem.  The Russians monitored the Biliskner’s demise but they have interpreted the explosion to be the destruction of their missing submarine and are blaming the US.  The twin specter of political as well as a technological menace is the stuff of nightmares.  Davis is desperate to learn if the SGC has encountered any alien technology capable of neutralizing the Bugs.  Teal’c disappoints him.  Not even the Goa’uld have technology that can fight the Replicators. However, he adds that human projectile weaponry (guns) are effective to some degree.  Sam offers more hope by surmising the Bugs are probably small in number and a well-armed team might be able to destroy them.  It’s a very meager stratagem but the only one Davis can deliver to the Pentagon .

Armed guards crowd the gate room.  Another unscheduled off world activation, this time without an ID code, puts the SGC on alert.  Hammond orders the iris to be closed but the technician is unable to comply.  Something has over-ridden the system and the iris remains open.  To make matters worse the SGC suffers a power failure.  Only the eerie blue glow of the wormhole illuminates the control room and gate room.  Some very tense moments pass and then a slender grey figure steps through the gate.  Thor stands and looks quizzically at the armed guards arrayed before him.  Jack, relieved by Thor’s survival, greets him.  In reply Thor thanks SG-1 for their recent help against the Replicators.  Thor thoughtfully restores the SGC’s power.  Sam wastes no time informing Thor that at least one of the Bugs survived the crash of the Biliskner.  She seeks Thor’s help to obliterate the threat.  Regretfully, Thor must refuse since the situation on his home world is critical because of an imminent Bug invasion.  All the ships defending Thor’s world are engaged in combating the Bug threat, and none could be spared to take Thor to Earth which is why he used the gate system.  The reason he left home at such a precarious time was to seek the help of SG-1!  Because SG-1’s strategy was so effective against the Biliskner’s Bug infestation Thor considers SG-1 to be the best hope for the survival of his world.  He goes on to explain that, because the Asgard are no longer capable of dreaming up primitive strategies, a less sophisticated human approach to the Bug menace might just make a difference.  Hammond is reluctant to let his primary team go.  Sam reasons that Jack and Teal’c can cope with the Bugs on the Russian sub and volunteers to return with Thor.  Hammond agrees and Jack jokingly suggests she might not be dumb enough.  Thor activates the gate and he and Sam depart on a very desperate mission.

Later, at the cordoned-off harbor, Jack briefs his boarding team.  The team is small comprising himself, Teal’c and two naval officers, Baker and Stevens.  He emphasizes that the Bugs will not attack unless provoked, that the mission should be kept simple and weapons used only when absolutely necessary.  All four of them are hooked up to individual video links so the situation can be monitored from the shore.  They are conveyed to the sub in a motor launch.

Thor’s home world.  Sam finds herself looking out across a massive and fantastical cityscape.  Almost overhead an Asgard ship is docked.  Thor identifies it as the O’Neill.  The ship is the most advanced Asgard technological creation to date, designed specifically to fight the Replicator threat.  Unfortunately, the timing of the Bugs attack is inopportune, for the O’Neill is not yet ready to be put into service.  Five Asgard ships are already engaging three Bug controlled ships heading towards the planet.  Before he and Sam join the Asgard fleet Thor stresses that failure will ensure the destruction of his home world.

Jack and his crew board the sub.  The red emergency lighting makes everything look dim but the crew have lights mounted on their headgear.  They split up; Baker goes with Jack and Stevens accompanies Teal’c.  Meanwhile Daniel, still unfit for active duty, watches the four monitors with anxious concentration.  Davis keeps watch too.  The progress of Jack and his crew is also monitored by blips on a computerized schematic of the sub.  The boarding crew begin to scour the sub on two separate decks, working from the bow towards the stern.  At first they find nothing...that is, until Jack opens a hatch and hears a familiar electronic whine.  Gun primed, he enters the compartment and finds it full of Bugs.  Rather than the expected purple of the Biliskner Bugs these are a dull reddish brown.  The Bugs offer no threat so Jack and Baker press on with their search.  Meanwhile Teal’c and Stevens encounter a monster Bug that has taken up residence on the battery deck.  The creature is living up to its name and replicating new bugs like crazy.  Daniel, clearly unhappy with his role of passive observer, advises extreme caution.  It is Daniel’s opinion that Teal’c has found a Queen Bug which will most likely attack if it feels threatened.  As Teal’c inches forward for a closer look Stevens is attacked by a smaller Bug.  Teal’c opens fire.  Jack and Baker dash towards the Battery Room.  Daniel watches helplessly as Teal’c’s gun runs out of ammunition.  Then Teal’c’s video link dies, leaving a horrified Daniel staring at static.  Jack and Baker meet Teal’c retreating from the Battery Room.  Stevens is dead.  All three head for an escape hatch with an army of Bugs in relentless pursuit.

Sam watches, fascinated, as pieces of a holographic Bug reassemble themselves into a horrible whole.  Thor describes the process using scientific terminology unfamiliar to Sam.  She listens as Thor patiently explains that a kiron pathway is a particular type of energy particle.  Sam, brilliant her in her chosen field of particle physics, has no idea what he’s talking about.  How can Thor expect her to out-think an advanced technology based on kiron science?  Thor counters her skepticism by saying no Asgard, for all their technological superiority, would ever think like a human or design a weapon like a gun.  Yet primitive human technology and strategy had effectively outwitted the Replicators.  He goes on to explain how each piece of Replicator acts like an individual computer, able to communicate with other blocks.  They can join together in various forms with the ultimate purpose of replicating.  Sam, mindful of the two blocks in her lab, is relieved to learn it takes more than two blocks to replicate.  Thor produces another holographic Bug.  Much to Sam’s surprise it is capable of acting like the real thing.  Unlike a real Bug is poses no danger to anyone.

Teal’c was injured by a Bug and Janet is treating a small wound between his shoulders.  The situation on the Russian sub is out of control and Jack demands the vessel be destroyed as soon as possible.  Meanwhile Janet, probing for a foreign body in Teal’c’s wound extracts a piece of Bug.

Sam glumly studies the virtual Bug.  She tells Thor, who has enquired as to her thoughts, that she is worried about the situation back home.  Thor promises to help if his world can be saved.  Sam is very skeptical about a successful outcome.  She isn’t confident she can make that important difference Thor needs and expects.  The situation becomes critical when Thor loses contact with the five Asgard ships.  The ships can no longer be detected on the holographic view screen nor by any other means.  All that remains between the Bugs and the Asgard world is the ship carrying Thor and Sam.  The pressure this new development places upon Sam makes her situation untenable.

While the US submarine, Dallas, prepares to torpedo the Russian vessel, Daniel is carefully studying the piece of bug extracted from Teal’c.  There are a number of unanswered questions whose solutions might prove crucial in destroying the Bugs, particularly the purple one.  Just before Dallas is ordered to fire, Daniel calls a halt to the procedure.  In mitigation he hold up the piece of Bug.  It is corroded.  Bugs are literally made of what they eat, using available materials to replicate.  All save the original Bug are made from the metal from the Russian sub.  It explains the color difference and also why the Bugs have contained themselves in the sub.  Surrounded by water they risk corrosion and short-circuiting.  Triumphantly he announces the Bugs should be easy to destroy...except for the Bug from the Biliskner.  For the mission to be successful the destruction of the purple bug must be assured.  Daniel has discovered that the Biliskner Bug has incorporated itself into the larger body of the Queen Bug.  Teal’c volunteers to return with Jack to the sub and destroy the Queen Bug.  Daniel has misgivings about his friends' returning to the sub and points out that, given the destruction of the queen, the army of Bugs will try to kill Jack and Teal’c.  Jack already has the problem in hand.  A diversion is in order.  Just then news arrives that the sub’s engines have started up.  Time is running out.

Sam, staring dejectedly at the holographic view screen, watches the image of Thor’s ship move into position behind the three Bug ships.  The Bugs are only two hours away from their destination but are not traveling at hyper-speed.  This puzzles Sam.  Thor explains that the Replicators are in no hurry.  They are using the time and the conserved power to replicate.  This gives Sam an idea.  She needs to know the status of the Bug ships should they go into hyper-speed.  Thor tells her that the power for their weapons and shields would be used to continue replicating.  Anticipating Sam’s plan he points out that it is impossible to reclaim a ship taken by the Replicators because of their superior technology; technology appropriated from cultures even more advanced than the Asgard.  Sam, her slim plan shattered by this latest bombshell, looks bleakly at Thor.

Jack plants the charge needed for a diversion.  The Bugs are attracted to bursts of energy and hopefully the detonation will distract the bulk of the Bug army.  Daniel tells them the sub has begun to dive while still at anchor but Jack, his balance compensating for the sub’s new attitude, is already aware of that.  Jack and Teal’c head for the Queen Bug’s nest on the battery deck.  Daniel follows their progress and becomes alarmed when the video signal begins to break up.  Davis assures Daniel the signal is unlikely to grow any weaker because the ship cannot dive deeper than periscope depth.  With the vessel submerged Jack and Teal’c must exit the sub through an escape hatch.

Sam is weary, as is Thor.  However, the Bugs are tireless and continue to replicate while speeding towards the Asgard planet.  Knowing the Bugs replicate using the best available material gives Sam another idea.  She asks Thor some questions about the O’Neill.  This most sophisticated of Asgard ships is constructed from a new alloy of naquadah, trinium and carbon, the toughest material the Asgard have devised.  Although the ship isn’t battle-ready its engines are capable of hyper-speed and it can be piloted remotely.  What she proposes to do is use the O’Neill as bait, the idea being the Bugs will find the new alloy irresistible.  Naturally, Thor is very concerned the Bugs will become invincible should they capture the ship and replicate using the new Asgard technology.  Sam then suggests the O’Neill will be booby-trapped, stuffed full of explosives.  Without the benefit of weapons or shields the Bug ships will be vulnerable traveling at hyper-speed.  If the Bugs are allowed to get close enough to the bait their ships will be taken out in the same explosion that destroys the O’Neill.  The proposal shocks Thor.  The O’Neill is the most advanced ship the Asgard have built.  It is their last best hope of fighting the Replicator menace.  Not so, Sam insists.  The practical Sam points out that the O’Neill will be useless if the Bugs reach the planet first.  Thor concedes the point but is worried the Bugs will not follow the O’Neill and make themselves vulnerable by going into hyper-space.  Sam presses her argument insisting the risk is high but worth taking.  The Asgard are swiftly running out of options.

As Jack and Teal’c approach the battery deck Jack remote detonates the charge.

Thor is reluctant to accept Sam’s reasoning.  She reminds him she is there because the Asgard could never think up a plan such as the one she proposes.  The Bugs overcome adversarial or superior technology by absorbing it.  For this reason the O’Neill will be irresistible bait and the Bugs won’t expect the Asgard to destroy the ship because such a tactic is not typical of the Asgard.  Thor cannot fault Sam’s argument.  He teleports to the O’Neill to prepare for the assault on the Bug ships.

Jack lobs a grenade into the compartment containing the queen Bug.  As expected, the Biliskner bug survives the explosion that destroys the inferior body of the queen.  Jack fires his gun and blasts the purple Bug to bits.  He waits a few moments.  The purple Bug does not reassemble itself.  Satisfied, he and Teal’c head for the nearest escape hatch.  He finds the way blocked by a curtain of bugs.  He blasts a hole through them but they reform immediately.  There is no escape in that direction.  Hundreds of Bugs are on their trail.  Jack fastens the hatch he and Teal’c have just come through, trapping the Bugs on the other side.  Running for their lives Jack and Teal’c find their new route blocked by more Bugs.  There are too many to destroy with gunfire.  The situation becomes critical as the trapped army of Bugs melt through the dogged hatch.  They pour through the hole in the door.  Desperately Jack searches for another way out.  There isn’t one.  They are both trapped.  With nowhere to run and confronted by a hopeless situation, Jack demands of Daniel that the ship be destroyed.  Daniel can’t accept his friends are facing certain death and engages his formidable intelligence to finding an alternative plan.  He can’t. Meanwhile Jack is demanding that Major Davies give Dallas the order to fire on the Russian sub.  Jack and Teal’c are fighting for their lives, buying time for a successful torpedo strike.  The Bug numbers are overwhelming and it is obvious that the fight will be over very quickly.  Daniel and Davis look on helplessly.

Thor returns from the O’Neill and he and Sam watch the three holographic Bug ships turn aside and pursue the O’Neill.  The elite Asgard ship goes into hyper-speed and so, thankfully do the Bug ships.  The O’Neill explodes, taking the Bug ships with it.  Sam is elated that her plan has worked.  “We did it!” she cries excitedly and hugs Thor.  Thor, his expression as enigmatic as ever, replies, “It was your stupid idea.”

An enormous swarm of Bugs are attacking Jack and Teal’c.  Daniel knows the two cannot hope to successfully defend themselves against such overwhelming odds.  Jack is screaming at Daniel and Davis to destroy the sub.  Davis radios the Dallas and gives the order to fire torpedoes.  Dallas complies and announces eight seconds to torpedo impact.  As the torpedoes explode against the sub’s hull Jack, visible through Teal’c’s link, is thrown to the deck and disappears beneath a seething mass of bugs.  Teal’c is still firing his weapon, determined to take as many of the monsters with him as he can.  Daniel is devastated by the awful drama unfolding before his eyes.  Suddenly, the screen showing Jack’s demise whites out for a few moments.  Daniel stares at the screen unbelievingly as the heap of Bugs collapse.  Quick to understand what he’s just seen he eagerly proclaims, “They’re okay!”  Thor and Sam have returned to Earth in the nick of time and snatched Jack and Teal’c from the pincers of certain death.

Jack is flattered to learn the Asgard named their latest ship after him, then Sam mischievously tells him she blew it up. Thor pledges to help Earth fight the Goa’uld System Lords just as soon as the Asgard defeat the Bugs.  Unfortunately, the Asgard world he and Sam saved is but one of many and assistance will not be forthcoming for some time.  Of course, if Thor needs any more dumb ideas he knows where to come looking.  Jack, grateful for Thor’s timely intervention, offers to take the Asgard fishing.  Thor’s response is to unceremoniously teleport Sam, Jack and Teal’c back to the SGC and leave Earth orbit as quickly as possible.  End Credits.

Quotes:
Fraiser (checking Daniel's appendix incision): I hear it took a little longer than they thought to set up the second gate.
Daniel: Uh, yes, they finally got it running yesterday. Technical difficulties or something.
Fraiser: They needed Sam's help, huh?
Daniel: Yes, it's ironic that she's not here to save herself.
Fraiser: Well, you are fine, there's no signs of residual infection. You're very lucky.
Daniel: Yes, so you keep saying.
Fraiser: Well, I still want you to take it easy for at least...
Intercom: Offworld activation. Repeat, we have an offworld activation. (Daniel jumps up and runs from the room)
Fraiser: Another week! Okay.

Daniel (running to get to the control room and bumping into people): Excuse me! Sorry! Ow!

O'Neill: Well, it's about time!
Carter: We've been dialing home for over a week.
Daniel: It's great to see you guys, too.

Hammond: Glad you made it, SG-1.
O'Neill: Where's the fanfare, General?
Carter: We did kind of save the planet, sir.
O'Neill: Again. This should not get old, General.
Hammond: Job well done.
O'Neill: Thank you sir, it was nothing.
Daniel: What happened to Thor?
Carter: We got him out in a stasis pod.
Teal'c: It was retrieved when we passed through the Stargate on P4X-234.
Carter: It must have had a locating beacon.
Hammond: They left you behind?
Carter: We were fine, sir.
O'Neill: I'd be happy to debrief you all after I've debriefed myself for a nice hot shower.
Hammond: Permission to shower granted. In fact, I insist on it, Colonel.
O'Neill: Bad?
Daniel: I wasn't going to say anything.

O'Neill: Whatcha doing?
Carter: They salvaged a couple of Replicator pieces from the ocean, I thought I'd have a look.
O'Neill: Is that wise?
Carter: Well, there's no discernable energy being emitted, I think it's pretty safe to say they're dead. Besides, it's only just a couple of little blocks.
O'Neill: Well, I'm off.
Carter: Still going fishing?
O'Neill: Yep. Still staying here?
Carter: Yeah. Think I've had enough relaxation for a while, sir.
O'Neill: Ok.
Carter: Have fun.
O'Neill: Ya sure, you betcha.

Carter: Sir, wait.
O'Neill: Deja view!
Carter: General Hammond just called. Major Davis is on his way in from the Pentagon.
O'Neill: Not going fishing?
Carter: No, sir.
O'Neill: D'oh.

Davis: The Navy intercepted a mayday from the commander of the foxtrot class attack submarine.
O'Neill: That's Russian.
Davis: Yes. Code name Blackbird. The crew was being attacked by a large mechanical spider.

O'Neill (about the submarine): Blow it up.
Davis: The Pentagon has requested that we take measures to preserve a number of specimens for study.
O'Neill: The Asgard already tried that, and those buggers are on the verge of wiping out their entire race.
Davis: That's why I'm here. You people are the closest thing to experts we've got.
O'Neill: As an expert, I'm saying blow it up!
Carter: Sir, conventional weapons might not do it. At least one of the Replicators survived the destruction of Thor's ship.
O'Neill: Fine, tow it back out to sea and nuke it!

Carter: I don't think you realize how dangerous these things are!
Davis: Is there any other way we can neutralize these things, maybe some alien technology you've come across?
Teal'c: The Replicators are impervious to Goa'uld technology. They are, however, susceptible to your human projectile weaponry.
O'Neill : Guns.
Carter: Sir, if there are still a small enough number of the Replicators on board, a properly equipped team could possibly...
O'Neill: Save the world?
Carter: Getting old for you, sir?

O'Neill: Thor, buddy!
Thor: Greetings, O'Neill.
O'Neill: Good to see you up and around.
Thor: I owe you and your team a great debt of gratitude for saving my life.
O'Neill: Well, here's timing.
Carter: Not all of the Replicators were destroyed when your ship exploded entering the atmosphere.
O'Neill: Maybe you could help us out?
Thor: I cannot.
O'Neill: Why?
Thor: I have come by Stargate because there are no ships to spare. My homeworld is being threatened by the Replicators. Thus far, all attempts to stop them have failed. I have come here to seek your help.

Thor: The Asgard have tried to stop them. You have demonstrated their weakness may be found through a less sophisticated approach. We are no longer capable of such thinking.
Daniel: Wait a minute, you're actually saying you need someone dumber than you are?
O'Neill: You may have come to the right place.
Hammond: Thor, with all due respect to your situation, we need SG-1 here.
Carter: I could go, sir.
O'Neill: I don't know Carter, you may not be dumb enough.
Carter: I think I can handle it, sir.
Hammond: Permission granted.
Thor (opening the Stargate with a wave of his hand): We must leave immediately.
O'Neill: Have fun.
Carter: Ya sure, you betcha.

Daniel: Jack, can you hear me?
O'Neill: Would it be necessary for me to mention my insane aversion to bugs at this time?

Carter (seeing the Asgard homeworld): Wow! That's an impressive looking ship.
Thor: The O'Neill was supposed to be our last great hope.
Carter: The O'Neill?
Thor: Yes. It is the most advanced technological Asgard creation yet. It is the first Asgard vessel designed solely to fight in the war against the Replicators.
Carter: So, why aren't we taking that?
Thor: It is not ready.
Carter: Where are we going exactly?
Thor: Five Asgard ships are currently engaging three ships controlled by the Replicators, which are on their way here. We are going to join the battle, and with your help, stop them.
Carter: Okay.
Thor: For the sake of the Asgard, we must not fail.
Carter: No pressure.

O'Neill (seeing the new Replicators on the sub): They're a different color.
Davis: Some sort of camouflage?
O'Neill: We're moving on.

Davis (seeing the mother bug over the video feed): That's a big one.
Daniel: If that's some sort of queen, the other bugs may try to protect it.
O'Neill: Queen?

Thor: To our knowledge, the interior of each block contains the following: two million isolated kirons pathways...
Carter: Whoa, whoa, whoa! What's a kiron?
Thor: In simplest terms, it is an energy particle.
Carter: I've never even heard of it.
Thor: Yes, I am aware.
Carter: Well, how am I supposed to help figure out how to defeat a kiron-based technology if I don't even know what a kiron is?
Thor: The Asgard would never invent a weapon that propels small weights of iron, and carbon alloys by igniting a powder of potassium nitrite, sulfur, and charcoal.
Carter: Okay, I get your point.
Thor: We cannot think like you.

Carter: I guess you don't keep any Replicators around for study?
Thor: It is too dangerous.
Carter: Of course, that would be stupid. Just out of curiosity, could, say, oh, I don't know, two of the individual blocks replicate?
Thor: It requires several blocks working together to make new blocks.
Carter: That's good to know.

O'Neill: It's out of control. Nobody's going back down in there.
Davis: We have to blow up the sub and hope that we can contain any of the bugs that survive.
O'Neill: I think it's the only way.
Davis: I'll talk to the Pentagon.
Fraiser: Colonel? There's definitely something in here. (digs a piece of shrapnel out of Teal'c's back) I think you brought back a souvenir.

Thor: Would you like sustenance?
Carter: Yes, thank you. I'm starving. (A plate full of brightly colored shapes appears)
Thor: I like the yellow ones.
Carter (takes a bite and makes a horrified face): Oh my God. (spits it out) Sorry.

Davis: On my command, they'll target the Blackbird with torpedoes.
Daniel: You should probably put a hold on that. This new block is corroded.
O'Neill: And the significance of that is?
Daniel: Okay, look, the way Sam explained this to me, the bugs use whatever raw material is around them to replicate, right? And these ones are eating the Russian submarine, which means they're basically made of steel or whatever the sub is made of.
Teal'c: That is why they are a different color.
Daniel: And it may also explain why they haven't tried to get off the sub yet.
O'Neill: It does?
Daniel: They can't. You see, they're only as resilient as the raw materials they're made of. These ones aren't like the ones on Thor's ship, they'll rust or short-circuit in the water. They're less sophisticated and they're vulnerable.
Davis: I'm sorry, it sounds like you're now saying that blowing up the sub would easily destroy them. If that's the case, why don't we do it right now?
Daniel: Because there's still one bug that could survive.
Teal'c: The one that survived Thor's ship.
Daniel: Right. It's the one that started all this by killing the entire crew of that sub. We have to be sure this won't happen again.

Teal'c: I will return with you, O'Neill.
O'Neill: You sure?
Daniel: Uh, look, every other bug on that sub is probably going to be
pretty upset when you kill "Mom"...
O'Neill: Yeah, that's be a fair reaction.
Teal'c: Should we not create a diversion? Replicators are attracted to
bursts of energy, are they not?
O'Neill: A small charge on the upper level, draw them away from Mom,
you're in a containable situation. Now's our shot.

Thor: You are tired.
Carter: Yeah.
Thor: It is another advantage the Replicators have over us. They do not require rest.
Carter: But they do have to eat?
Thor: Yes, in order to replicate.
Carter: And they are what they eat, right? What's the strongest material you know of?
Thor: We have just developed a new alloy of Naquada, trinium, and carbon. It was used to create the hull of the O'Neill.
Carter: Can that ship reach hyperspeed yet?
Thor: Yes.
Carter: Can it be flown using autopilot or some sort of remote control?
Thor: Why?
Carter: So we can get the Replicators to chase after it.
Thor: It is possible, however...
Carter: That ship is everything they're looking for. It'll look like an all-you-can-eat buffet.
Thor: But it is not complete. They will capture it and consume its technology.
Carter: Not if you rig it to self-destruct.
Thor: I do not understand.
Carter: You said that the bugs can't use shields or weapons in hyperspeed. If the O'Neill enters hyperspeed, the bugs will have to in order to follow. When they do, you blow the O'Neill, and take the bugs with it.
Thor: Major Carter, you are suggesting that we destroy the most advanced Asgard attack vessel ever created, before it is even finished.
Carter: I know.
Thor: The O'Neill is our last hope of successfully attacking Replicator-infested ships.
Carter: It won't attack anything if the bugs get to your planet before
it's finished.

Carter: The whole reason that I am here is because you want me to suggest a strategy that you would never think of. You keep trying to defeat them by building better technology and they keep absorbing it and becoming more advanced. You have to use that against them. Now, we know that they'll go after the O'Neill because it's the most advanced ship you have. They'll think that you're trying to keep it from them. They won't expect you to blow it up. It's a tactic they've never seen before.
Thor: It's a tactic we would never consider.
Carter: Exactly! I mean, otherwise, we just stand here and watch them invade your world. I'm sorry, maybe it's a really stupid idea, but isn't that why I'm here?
Thor: Then we should try it.

O'Neill (upon seeing that a direct grenade strike didn't kill the mother bug): Son of a bitch! (he blasts it repeatedly with his gun, and it finally dies)
Teal'c: I believe you got it, O'Neill.
O'Neill: Yeah, I think I got it.

O'Neill (upon seeing the Replicators blocking any means of escape): Ah, crap!

O'Neill: You'd better go ahead and blow this thing.
Daniel: That's not exactly a positive attitude, Jack.
O'Neill: Listen to me. We are not getting out of here. Mission accomplished, blow it!
Daniel: Jack!
O'Neill: Daniel, please! (static) before I get eaten alive by these (static) damn bugs! Davis, give the order!

Thor: The O'Neill has been launched.
Carter: They're chasing it.
Thor: The O'Neill will now enter hyperspeed. (the ship blows up, taking the Replicator ships with it)
Carter: It worked! Yes! (She hugs Thor) Oh, sorry, I didn't hurt you, did I?
Thor: I am fine.
Carter: We did it.
Thor: It was your stupid idea, Major Carter.

Daniel (agreeing to blow up the sub with O'Neill and Teal'c still inside): Okay, okay.
Davis: Fire on target.
Siler: Dallas is firing torpedo, eight seconds to impact. Blackbird attempting evasive maneuver. Torpedoes still on target. Two seconds. Direct hit.

Daniel (upon seeing O'Neill and Teal'c transported by the Asgard):
They're ok!
Davis: What?
Daniel: The, the, the, the, th-th, they're okay!

O'Neill: Now that's timing!
Carter: Came as soon as we could, sir.
O'Neill: Teal'c? You all right?
Teal'c: I am, O'Neill.
Carter: I take it things weren't going well?
O'Neill: Oh, we had things handled pretty good.
Carter: So the bugs are all taken care of down there?
O'Neill: Pretty much. You?
Carter: We kicked their asses.
O'Neill: They had asses?
Carter: The Asgard had this big new ship, The O'Neill...
O'Neill (very pleased): Oh, yeah?
Carter: But...we had to blow it up.

Thor: Saving one Asgard planet is a small victory, O'Neill. The conflict with the Replicators stretches across my galaxy. Major Carter's strategy worked this time, but the Replicators are very intelligent. It may not work again.
O'Neill: I get it.
Thor: However, now there is hope, where once there was none.
Carter: Well, if you ever need any more dumb ideas, you know where to find me.
