Synopsis: We open in the Gate room, where SG-1 has just returned. Hammond tells them that they're late; they explain they thought they had discovered Kheb (see "Forever in a Day") but were unable to find Sha're's child. Hammond tells them to get down to the infirmary, and over the PA speakers we hear that there's a transport of hazardous materials in progress...what's going on? O'Neill and the others agree, head to the elevator where they learn that Level 23 has been sealed off due to a tetrachlorethylene chemical spill, and down to the infirmary.

Dr. Fraiser makes them all lower their pants to inject them with something that they assume is a sedative (standard procedure), they briefly discuss the age and mental capabilities of the Harsesis child, until one by one, they all collapse onto their beds, unconscious. Fraiser, satisfied that they're all knocked out, announces coldly that they will "begin."

Next we see, Teal'c is lying on a metal table and Carter's lying on a similar table a few feet away. He wakes up in time to overhear Dr. Fraiser and General Hammond discussing how their procedure was unsuccessful on Teal'c because of his symbiote. They're guessing that's why it also didn't work on Carter, because she was once a host. Hammond tells them to lock up Teal'c in a holding cell and study him further later. They need to find out if this is a viable homeworld. Before they leave, Teal'c sees that Hammond and Fraiser are talking to two strange looking beings...aliens. Uh oh, the SGC's been taken over by a hostile alien race and are posing as the SG personnel!

So Teal'c pretends to still be asleep as Sgt. Siler and another guard come and wheel him to the elevator. They go down to the holding cell on Level 16, and as they're leaving the elevator, Teal'c suddenly jumps up and knocks out Siler. He takes Siler's access card, rolls Siler on the table through the hallways and places him in a side room. Next he grabs some weapons from the armory, shoots two more guards on the elevator who're taking Carter to the holding cell, and places her in the elevator. She wakes up, says she feels sick, and wonders about the two soldiers who are lying unconscious on the floor. Teal'c explains what he saw and heard, that the base has been taken over.

The two of them head to the surveillance room, knock out the woman inside, and try to find out what's going on on Level 23; unfortunately, none of the cameras on that level are operating. The Stargate starts dialing in and they check out the cameras inside the Gate room, only to find Hammond, O'Neill, and Daniel standing at the base of the ramp, welcoming the two aliens who arrive. Carter says the O'Neill and Daniel they knew would never welcome aliens so carelessly...they have to be imposters. If Hammond and the others have been compromised, then they can't trust anyone inside the base. Carter and Teal'c take off inside the base to find an exit to the surface.

Soldiers elsewhere in the base, however, discover the two unconscious soldiers inside the elevator and sound the alarm to find the escaped prisoners. Teal'c tells Carter he'll buy some time for her to escape from the base, and Carter tells him she'll come back for him. Teal'c takes off through the base again, knocks out two more guards, is shot by another guard, then zaps him with the Zat gun. He sees an alien standing in the hallway and heads toward him, but suddenly the doors start closing and he finds himself trapped in the hallway. Gas pours in through a vent and he falls to the ground, unconscious.

Carter has escaped from the base through the hole we saw Cromwell enter the base in during "A Matter of Time," then off she goes through the forest. Next we see her, she's calling Colonel Mayborne from a phone near an airport. She tells him they have a foothold situation inside the SGC, then asks him to meet her at a small cafe outside NID headquarters at four o'clock that day. Mayborne questions her authority to do this, but finally agrees.

Teal'c wakes up in the infirmary, restrained to the bed by some huge, honkin' leather belts. Fraiser asks him how he's feeling and says he went crazy, attacking people inside the base. Apparently he was affected by the fumes of the chemical spill and was delusional. Hammond walks in and tells him they need to find Carter because she could harm someone in the same manner as Teal'c did. If they don't find her, she could get worse or even die. Teal'c says he doesn't know where she went.

Carter, meanwhile, meets Mayborne at the cafe she told him about. Mayborne reveals that he's spoken to General Hammond and that he sounded fine; Carter is not happy to hear that Mayborne didn't trust her and broke protocol. She threatens to leave but as she's going, she runs into O'Neill and Daniel who gently force her to sit back down. After a long talk (see the quotes section), they kinda sorta persuade Carter that she's just being paranoid due to the chemical spill in the SGC and she unhappily agrees to return to the base so Dr. Fraiser can check her out.

Back inside the base, Fraiser and Hammond are still questioning Teal'c. He asks them to release him from his restraints; they refuse. Hammond receives a call saying that Carter has been located and Fraiser, upon hearing this, announces that they're going to begin experimenting on Teal'c. Oh dear, poor Teal'c.

Carter, O'Neill, Daniel, and Mayborne board Mayborne's private jet and head back to the SGC. O'Neill calls Hammond and tells him to expect them, then says that the chemical spill on Level 23 has been cleaned up. Carter listens to this until she sees O'Neill's body suddenly flicker into the image of an alien, then back to the image of O'Neill. Fed up with these aliens, she grabs Mayborne's gun and points it "O'Neill," who isn't very happy with her actions. They tell her to put the gun down, O'Neill rushes at her, and she shoots him, causing him to revert in form to that of the alien. "Daniel" is stunned by this, causing a distraction. Major Davis sneaks into the cabin, makes a weird alien scream...and Carter whips around and shoots him too, causing him to also change into an alien. Mayborne tells her to check out the pilot and see if he's still okay. To prove that he's not an alien, Mayborne cuts his hand to show Carter that he's bleeding normal blood and Carter, satisfied, grabs "Major Davis's" gun and does as he asks.

Inside the base, the real O'Neill wakes up and finds himself trapped inside a silver harness that's hanging from the ceiling. He tries to wake Hammond, who's hanging unconscious next to him, but to no avail.

Back in the jet, Carter removes two metal devices from one of the aliens. Mayborne asks "Daniel" what it is, but "Daniel" says he doesn't know. This ticks off Mayborne, who grabs "Daniel's" neck, hard, to force him to talk. He calls out to Carter for help and she tells Mayborne to let him go. She walks over to him and pulls a similar metal device from "Daniel's" chest, and he transforms into an alien. Aha! So that's how they're making themselves look like SG personnel! The alien rushes at Carter, but Mayborne shoots it and stuns it. She places the device on the palm of her hand and morphs into Daniel. After she removes the device again, she tells Mayborne that she only looked like Daniel--she couldn't actually hear his thoughts. Maybe that's what the second device she removed from the alien was supposed to do. In any case, she and Mayborne decide that there was a certain tone inside the cabin that interfered with the devices and caused the aliens to revert back to their normal forms. If they can duplicate it inside the SGC, they might be able to tell who's a real person and who's an alien pretending to be one of the personnel.

At the moment, however, O'Neill is still trying to get out of his silver harness. Shortly after, several feet away from him, Major Davis wakes up and asks what's going on. Before they can come to conclusions, they hear someone coming toward the room and both pretend to still be unconscious. Fraiser enters with another Stargate person, places him inside a weird chamber on the ground, and when he comes out he's hooked up in a harness similar to their own. Fraiser takes a metal device, places it on another alien, and the alien morphs into the soldier who had just been placed in the chamber. The aliens leave, but not before "Fraiser" looks back into the room curiously, as if she's heard something or suspects that someone's awake.

Where has the alien posing as Dr. Fraiser gone? Unfortunately, off to do something not very nice to Teal'c and his Goa'uld. She has pulled the symbiote from his body and is injecting it with something...poking it, shocking it, injecting it with something, and the symbiote is not happy with what she's doing. Turns out Teal'c and his symbiote are going to be harder to subdue than the others inside the base were.

Back on Level 23, O'Neill manages to take off the silver headband, then finds the latch for the harness and falls to the ground. Major Davis does likewise. O'Neill tries to wake up Fraiser and takes her headband off, but an annoying squealing sound goes off through the base. He puts it back on her, hoping no one noticed the sound. Elsewhere, "Fraiser" freezes, realizing something's wrong, and hurries back to the room. O'Neill tackles her from behind and knocks her out.

We cut briefly to the forest outside the SGC where Carter is sneaking back into the base using the same escape route she'd used before. Before she climbs into the hole, she places the alien device on her body and transforms into Daniel to avoid the suspicion of the aliens inside the base.

O'Neill searches "Fraiser" and finds her gun and the alien devices.  He takes the device off of her and she morphs back into the alien's form. Suddenly the door opens and in walks Daniel...who acts surprisingly like Carter. He/she takes off the alien device so O'Neill can see that it's really Carter, not Daniel. She explains what's happened and that she needs to replicate the tone used on the jet in order to make the aliens look like aliens and not Stargate personnel. She changes back into Daniel and heads off to do that while O'Neill and Davis go to the armory.

Inside Carter's lab, "Daniel" grabs some electronic devices and starts playing with them. Meanwhile, O'Neill goes to the holding cell where Teal'c is being kept and tells the guards to let him in. Once inside, he shoots the guards with the zat gun and frees Teal'c, who is not surprisingly very happy to see him.

"Daniel" tests his/her electronic device and finds it's successful--she morphs into Carter, then back to Daniel. "Hammond" bursts into the room and attacks her, but before he can injure her, "General Hammond" is called down to the control room and leaves. Carter turns on the device, changes back into herself, grabs a gun, plays the tone over the PA system, and all the aliens change from guards back into their original form.

Elsewhere in the base, the aliens realize they're in trouble and go to the control room, where they see Mayborne's forces invading and attacking them. The leader of the aliens lets out a terrible scream and the others run to the Gate room. Carter, O'Neill and Teal'c wonder what just happened, Teal'c suggests it was a signal to evacuate, and Carter tells them they can't let that happen because the aliens have had access to their minds. O'Neill agrees that they need to stop it and off they go to the Control room.  The Stargate dials out and a whole mess of aliens run through it. Carter tries to close the iris, but it's been overridden and instead shuts down the whole Stargate. The aliens who didn't make it through before the Stargate disengages turns around, presses a button on his armor, glares at them, and grumbles a bit. O'Neill realizes something is not right with this and closes the heavy door that separates the control room from the Gate room just in time to avoid a huge explosion in the Gate room. He opens the door again and they find that all of the aliens self-destructed, causing a ton of damage to the control room.

So the aliens are gone and SG-1 is discussing the events in the debriefing room. Hammond says that P3X 118 has been locked out of the computer system...that's where the aliens who escaped went. They've also changed all the iris codes to prevent the aliens from being able to return. They figure the aliens returned to Earth posing as SG-6, then called Major Davis to the base, hoping to take over the Pentagon after they'd finished with the SGC. To prevent this from happening in the future, they'll use a high blast from Carter's tone generator every time a team returns to make sure they're not aliens. Mayborne walks into the debriefing room, tells them that the alien posing as Daniel is dead, then says they're hoping all the other aliens who were not caught in the explosion in the Gate room were linked to their leader and died when he did. Before he leaves, he credits Carter with saving the SGC and O'Neill says they hope to see him again sometime.

Quotes:
Hammond: "You're overdue."
O'Neill: "Bit of a wild good chase, Sir."
Daniel: "The remnants of a temple we discovered led me to believe we had found Kheb, the planet Sha're told me about."
Teal'c: "However, there was no sign of the Harsesis child."
O'Neill, a bit too loudly because he has water in his ear and can't hear anything: "Just rain. Much rain. Wind, lightning, hail, did I mention the rain, Sir?"
Hammond: "Report to the infirmary."
O'Neill: "Well, I think we'd all like to change first, General. I personally have mushrooms growing out of my...." Over the PA they hear an announcement about the transport of hazardous materials. "Infirmary. Yes, Sir."

Fraiser: "Loosen your belt please, Colonel."
O'Neill: "How's a needle in my butt going to get water out of my ear?"
Fraiser: "It isn't. Come on, Sir, you know this is standard procedure."
O'Neill: "We should rethink this procedure. So Daniel, in our galactic meanderings, if we happen to stumble upon this Narsesis child...."
Daniel: "Harsesis."
O'Neill: "...Still talkin' about a baby, right? What?"
Daniel: "What?"
O'Neill, to the nurse with the needle: "Listen, really jam it in this time, okay?"

Teal'c: "Our escape has been detected."
Carter: "We won't make it out this way now."
Teal'c: "You are correct. I will purchase time for you to escape this mountain."
Carter: "Keep them busy as long as you can. I'll come back for you."
Teal'c: "Of that I am certain."

Mayborne: "Mayborne."
Carter: "This is Major Samantha Carter. We have a foothold situation."
Mayborne: "Major Carter? Where are you?"
Carter: "I can't tell you that, Sir. If memory serves, there's an outdoor cafe outside NID headquarters."
Mayborne: "In D.C.?"
Carter: "Four o'clock."
Mayborne, looking at his watch: "Ah, I'm going to need a little more than that."
Carter: "I repeat, we have a foothold situation."
Mayborne: "Major, you're way outside your appropriate chain of command."
Carter: "I have reason to believe that may be compromised, Sir."
Mayborne: "Understood."

Mayborne: "So, you came to the one person you don't trust."
Carter: "I don't know how far up the chain of command the infiltration goes. It may well be contained within the SGC but if General Hammond was compromised...."
Mayborne: "He sounded fine to me on the phone."
Carter: "What?!"
Mayborne: "He called me, Major. Calm down. He's concerned for you, that's all."
Carter: "I told you we had a foothold situation."
Mayborne: "A chemical spill causing paranoid delusions sounds more plausible to me than aliens taking over the SGC."
Carter: "My god. You don't think I can tell the difference between the two?! What was I thinking!" She stands and turns...finding herself face to face with O'Neill and Daniel.
O'Neill: "Oh, hi, Carter."
Carter, to Mayborne: "Mayborne, you are an idiot every day of the week, why couldn't you have taken just one day off?!"
Mayborne: "That's insubordination, Major."
O'Neill: "For cryin' out loud, Mayborne, cut her some slack. She's not exactly herself."
Daniel: "And neither were we. Sam, believe me, I know what you're feeling. It's the chemical."
Carter: "I don't believe it."
O'Neill: "Alright, exactly what are the side effects of the tetrachlorehtylmermaline stuff?"
Carter: "Hallucination, delusion."
O'Neill: "Paranoid delusion, I think it was, but go on."
Carter: "Look, I know what I saw."
Daniel: "We were affected by the fumes the moment we stepped into the elevator."
O'Neill: "Didn't even realize it was happening. I vaguely remember having some water in my ear, but that's it."
Carter: "Dr. Fraiser injected me with something."
O'Neill: "She was trying to sedate you. She didn't give enough to Teal'c, he sprung you, and off you went. He's fine by the way. Beat the crap out of a couple of SFs but he's fine."
Daniel: "We're telling you the truth, Sam."
Carter, to Mayborne: "You should've followed procedure."
Mayborne: "I fully intend to return with you just to make sure everything's alright."
Carter, to O'Neill: "And you agreed to that?" She turns back to Mayborne. "Shouldn't that tell you something?"
Mayborne: "I wouldn't tell them where we were meeting until they agreed to my inspection of the SGC."
Carter: "You have no idea what you're walking into."
Mayborne: "I can take care of myself, Major. If I don't report back in a few hours, rest assured that action will be taken."
O'Neill: "We just want you to come back so Fraiser can check you out."
Carter: "You're asking."
O'Neill: "We're asking."
Carter: "So I have a choice. I can walk away right now."
Daniel and O'Neill: "Yes."
Mayborne: "No!"
O'Neill: "Mayborne...."
Mayborne: "Major Carter, you will accompany us back to the base. If you resist, you will be handcuffed."
O'Neill: "No she won't."
Mayborne: "You know, this is all very touching, but I think this very conversation in this very public place is evidence that Major Carter in her current state is something of a security risk."
O'Neill: "What's the matter with you?"
Daniel, to Carter: "It's starting to wear off, isn't it? You're starting to think straight. That's exactly what happened to me."
Carter: "I'm so tired."
O'Neill: "We're going to go now. I'd like you to come with. It's up to you."
Carter: "Alright."
O'Neill: "You're sure? Good. Plane's waiting."

O'Neill, about the interior of the jet: "Your tax dollars at work. Cozy little jet you've got here, Mayborne."
Mayborne: "You've alerted General Hammond to expect me."
O'Neill: "Oh, yes. He's awaiting your thoughts."
Carter: "So how exactly is Teal'c?"
Daniel: "Oh, well, you know Teal'c."

Davis: "What's going on? How did we get like this?"
O'Neill: "You're asking me?"

O'Neill: "Davis, the latch for that thing is...." Davis falls to the ground. "You found it."

Davis, to O'Neill who's trying to wake up Fraiser: "Do you think that's such a good idea, Sir?"
O'Neill: "It's an idea."

O'Neill, after punching "Fraiser" in the face and she finally falls to the ground: "That was weird."

O'Neill, as "Fraiser" turns back into an alien: "Yeah, that's an alien alright."

O'Neill: "Hello."
"Daniel": "Colonel?"
O'Neill: "Yes?"
"Daniel": "It's you?"
O'Neill: "Yes."
"Daniel", speaking very, very quickly: "It's good to see you." He/she sees the other SG personnel hanging from the ceiling. "Oh my god. I figured they had to be keeping you alive in order to access your minds...."
O'Neill: "Whoa! You're you?"
"Daniel": "Sir? Oh, sorry." He/she takes off the alien device and transforms into Carter.
Davis: "Major Carter!"
O'Neill: "Oh, well, in that case, it's good to see you too."

Carter: "Look, Colonel, Mayborne's forces are moving in soon."
O'Neill: "Mayborne? How'd he get....?"
Carter: "I called him."
O'Neill: "Willingly?!"

O'Neill: "I pulled that headband thing off of Fraiser, her evil twin came running."
Carter: "Well how did you two get free?"
Davis: "We just woke up."
Carter: "Must've happened when I killed you."
O'Neill: "I'm sorry....?"
Carter: "I killed the aliens impersonating both of you on the plane."
O'Neill: "And they don't know you did this."
Carter: "I don't know."

O'Neill: "I've come for the bald prisoner." The guards let him into the cell. "You will come with me."
Teal'c: "I will submit to no further experiments."
O'Neill: "Oh but you will." He turns to the guards. "I'll take it from here."
Guard: "Can't allow that, Sir."
O'Neill: "Oh but you can." He shoots both of them.
Teal'c: "Colonel O'Neill, I presume."
O'Neill: "What gave it away?"

O'Neill: "Sure you're up to this?"
Teal'c: "As always."
O'Neill: "You're an animal."

Carter: "What's going on?"
O'Neill: "I don't know, they just ran."
Teal'c: "Perhaps it is an evacuation."
Carter: "Well we can't let that happen, Sir."
O'Neill: "Why not?"
Carter: "They've had access to our minds. They know everything about us."
O'Neill: "Everything?"
Carter: "Everything."

O'Neill, about the destruction in the Gate room: "Coat of paint, a little touch up, it'll be fine."

O'Neill: "Colonel Mayborne. Good save."
Mayborne: "I thought you'd like to know the alien posing as Dr. Jackson expired."
Teal'c: "What of the aliens that were not caught in the Gate room explosion?"
Mayborne: "We're guessing they were linked to their leaders in some form or another when he self destructed."
Carter: "What about the aliens that escaped through the gate?"
Mayborne: "I guess we'll never know. We have to hope the same thing happened to them."
Hammond: "We appreciate your help in this matter, Colonel Mayborne."
Mayborne: "Credit Major Carter. I do. Well, I'm sure we'll see each other again."
O'Neill: "That'd be nice, Harry."
