Synopsis: Episode opens inside a library (which looks strangely similar to the library we saw in "Past and Present"...but never mind that <g>).  The table in the middle of the room is covered with Egyptian artifacts, and at one end of it there is an older man (who we later learn is Dr. Jordan) examining them.  A younger man (Steven Rayner) enters the library and the two briefly discuss how fortunate they were to be able to look at the artifacts since the Egyptian government wants them back ASAP.  Dr. Jordan is having a resonance scan run on the Osiris Jar, and he tells Steven he's going down to the lab.  Steven assures him he will follow shortly; but, before he does, he examines one of the other artifacts, a golden amulet.

Inside the debriefing room of the SGC, O'Neill is reading a paper called Glimmer.  From the cover, we can tell it's a tabloid.  Daniel walks in and asks what he's reading; O'Neill tells him Teal'c is "into" that kind of thing.  Jack then proceeds to read one of the horoscopes aloud ("a great week is in store for you...you'll be going on a trip"), and while he does, Daniel notices one of the articles.  Taking the paper from O'Neill, we see that it's a picture of Dr. Jordan, Daniel's archaeology professor.  He's dead.  Cut to opening credits.

Next scene, we're at the graveyard where Dr. Jordan is being buried.  Steven is giving the eulogy when he notices that Daniel is standing in the background, watching.  After the funeral, Daniel walks up to the casket and Steven greets him, calling him the "prodigal son."  A woman named Sarah joins them and gives Daniel a hug.  Daniel asks them what happened to Dr. Jordan; the paper he'd read attributed the death to the curse of Osiris.  Steven tells him the police report said there was a slow gas leak and the lab exploded after a spark was started there.  Sarah tells Daniel they would've called him, only no one knew where he was.

The three of them continue walking.  Sarah wants to know where Daniel has been the past five years since she hasn't seen any sign of him.  It's almost like he fell off the face of the Earth...what an interesting way to describe it.  The last time Steven saw Daniel, he was giving a lecture to an empty room, and he points out that the world wasn't ready to hear that the pyramids were built by aliens.  It doesn't take much to realize this guy harbors some bitter feelings toward Daniel.  Steven snaps at Daniel that if he was looking for closure, it was too late for that, then he walks away.  Sarah, however, apparently isn't as upset at Daniel as Steven and the two continue walking.

Daniel says that Steven was right; he should've come back sooner.  Sarah tells him that in spite of everything that happened (i.e. all of Daniel's wacko theories), he was always Dr. Jordan's best student.  Dr. Jordan had always hoped Daniel could come up with the proof to back his theories just to shut everyone up.  Steven's just jealous because he was always in Daniel's shadow.  We then learn that Sarah and Daniel have some history together, but they didn't end it particularly well.  She was afraid he didn't come back sooner because of her; Daniel assures her no, it wasn't her, he just found something...incredible.  The two then head back to the library.

Cut to the debriefing room, where O'Neill is asking Hammond who's getting assigned to SG-1 while Daniel's otherwise engaged.  No one -- SG-1 has certainly earned some time off, and Hammond will reschedule their next mission until Daniel's back.  O'Neill points out that, well, the leaving part's been a bit of a problem lately (as seen by Thor's zapping him aboard his ship in "Nemesis" and "Small Victories").  Yet again, O'Neill tries to convince Carter to come fishing with him in Minnesota, and yet again she turns him down flat.  Gotta give Jack credit for his persistence. <g>  This time, though, he coerces a none-too-pleased Teal'c into coming along with him.

Back we go to the university library, where Sarah is showing Daniel all the fun Egyptian stuff.  They've been trying to learn as much as possible before the Egyptian government demands the artifacts back, but there's a bit of a problem with the artifacts being "cursed."  All the original excavators in the Stuart excavation died a year after the dig (which Daniel says was attributed to mold spores released into the air), then the ship transporting the artifacts to America sank.  Recently the wreck was found and all the shipping containers were still intact, so they were sent to the university in Chicago.  Daniel offers to stay a few more days and help catalog them.  At this point, Sarah notices something is missing from the artifacts -- a golden amulet.  Hmm, that couldn't be the one Steven was looking at at the beginning of the episode, could it?

Meanwhile, O'Neill is preparing to leave the SGC on his little fishing expedition.  He makes it very clear to General Hammond that he and Teal'c will have no cell phones, no fax machines, nada.  Thor'll have to beam him up himself if he needs to talk to him, and as for the Tok'ra...well, let's just say he doesn't like them. <g>

Off Daniel goes in search of the missing gold amulet.  He heads down to storage to talk to the curator, who initially thinks he's looking for the Isis jar.  No, that wasn't what he had in mind, but...what's the Isis jar?  The curator tells him she'd show him, and as for the gold amulet, she sent it up to Dr. Jordan with all the rest of the stuff.  They pull the jar from a shelf, and the curator comments that there are symbols on it that she's never seen before...Daniel says he has seen them before.  Interesting.

So what has Carter been up to while all the boys are playing?  She's working in the SGC (with Sgt. Siler) on a motorbike. <g>  Daniel calls her and says he's in Chicago looking at an Egyptian burial jar...that has Goa'uld symbols on it.

Finally, finally, O'Neill gets his wish to go to Minnesota.  We cut to him and Teal'c, sitting on a pier on a pond, loons crying in the background, not catching a single fish.  Teal'c learns the hard way that you should never mention the fact that you haven't caught any fish to O'Neill, since O'Neill calls him "T," brushes the statement off, and says it's not about the fish, it's about the act of fishing.  Poor Teal'c doesn't like this one bit.  Not surprisingly, he's ecstatic (or as ecstatic as we'll ever see Teal'c) when a cell phone rings.  O'Neill is appalled that Teal'c would dare bring a cell phone to Minnesota, and he answers it rather testily.  It's Daniel, asking Teal'c for help with a translation.  Teal'c informs him that the translation reads "Banished to oblivion," then, when Daniel thanks him, he offers to help in any other way he can (hinting, not so subtly, that he wants to get as far from Minnesota as possible).  O'Neill's irked by this, hangs up on Daniel, removes the batteries from the phone, tosses them as far away as he can, and hands the phone back to Teal'c.  Poor, poor Teal'c. <g>

Daniel has gone back to the SGC, and he explains to Carter and Hammond that during the ritual of mummification, the Egyptians removed the human's vitals and placed them in canopic jars to be used in the afterlife.  The jar he found in the university basement belonged to Isis, the mother goddess and consort to Osiris, the first Egyptian pharaoh.  According to the myths, Osiris was placed in a magic box and thrown into the Nile by his brother, Seth, a name that Hammond definitely recognizes.  The Goa'uld symbols on the jar indicate that Isis and Osiris suffered some kind of banishment.  Hammond wants Carter to analyze the contents of the jar, and Daniel warns her that it was apparently "cursed"; it could be some sort of Goa'uld booby-trap.  Carter takes the jar and leaves.  Daniel warns Hammond of something else -- the inventory from the expedition listed two such jars...and the second one is missing.

Back in Chicago, Daniel enters the museum basement.  No one's there, and the light switch doesn't work.  He finds a flashlight and wanders around to find the breaker box.  Suddenly, he hears something...it's Steven, also looking for the breaker box.  Daniel says he needs to ask the curator some more questions on the Stuart expedition -- something appears to be missing -- but Steven doesn't think she's there since the lights were off when he arrived.  He then insists rather vehemently that nothing else is missing.  The second canopic jar?  It was destroyed in the explosion in the lab.  So what about the gold amulet? Daniel asks.  Steven avoids the question and retorts that if Daniel's looking to get back together with Sarah, that's his business, just don't interfere in Steven's work.  Finally, they find the breaker box...only to also find the curator's body in the elevator.  She's dead.

Meanwhile in the SGC, Carter is running the examination of the jar.  She reports that the exterior of the jar is made of ceramic.  The seal has been damaged.  She hopes the MRI will tell them what's inside it...and what do they find?  A Goa'uld symbiote.  Uh-oh.

Daniel tells Sarah that the curator suffered a fatal, blunt trauma to the skull, probably when some bricks fell on her from above.  The police don't believe Daniel had anything to do with it, but Steven certainly didn't help matters when he gave his report.  Sarah shows Daniel some pictures of the missing Osiris jar, but he can't make out the inscription around the figure's collar.  She replies that they didn't understand the writing, but Dr. Jordan copied the symbols into his notebook.  Could Daniel see them?  Sure.  Her suspicions rise once again when Daniel obviously recognizes the writing but won't tell her what they are.  How about preliminary tests on the jar?  Sarah says they were destroyed, but the lab results should still be in the computer.

Dr. Fraiser finally gets to fulfill her dream -- autopsying the Goa'uld symbiote inside the canopic jar.  It's dead, but it's been perfectly preserved.  According to Daniel it's been inside the jar several thousand years, but as far as Fraiser can tell, it could've just died yesterday.

Sarah looks in the computer for the lab results, only something's wrong -- the files are gone.  Likewise, the email system has been wiped clean and the backups are also missing.  She digs through another email backup until she finds what she's looking for.  Dr. Jordan received one message the night he died about the lab results...carbon dating on the missing gold amulet revealed it was over 10,000 years old.  Daniel's theories about Egyptian civilization being much older than anyone thought were right!  Yeah, he knows, but they can't tell anyone about it.  Sarah's stunned.  He's finally found the proof he needs to clear his reputation and he doesn't want anyone to know about it?  Before they leave, Sarah notices something else.  The message with this information had been carbon copied to Dr. Rayner...Steven.

Carter and Fraiser tell General Hammond that the Goa'uld symbiote shouldn't be in such good condition.  Their first thought was that it was preserved in formaldehyde, but now it looks like the interior of the canopic jar is a highly advanced containment vessel with a tiny naquadah power source inside it.  It's emitting a low-level electrical charge...just what a symbiote needs to survive.  They're not sure why anyone would want to extract the symbiote from its host and store it in a jar like this, but Dr. Fraiser is certain that it was alive when it was placed there, most likely without a choice.  The liquid inside the container had sedative-like properties, enough to keep the symbiote alive indefinitely.  So why was the Goa'uld dead?  Probably because the seal had been broken during transport.  If the second jar survived the trip, though, there could be another Goa'uld on the loose somewhere.

Back in Chicago, Daniel's checking the other artifacts from the Stuart expedition for any trace of naquadah when Sarah walks in.  He quickly hides the naquadah-checking device from her.  Steven's gone; Daniel says he already knows.  He thinks Steven's the one who stole the gold amulet, and it's obvious from his words that he thinks Steven's now the Goa'uld Osiris, although he doesn't explicitly tell Sarah that.  She gets annoyed that Daniel won't tell her what's going on --  he just keeps teasing her with bits and pieces of information -- and tries to persuade him to open up to her, but he refuses.  He's just going to disappear again after this, isn't he?  Yup.  Sarah tells him he shouldn't have come back and leaves.

Daniel heads back to the SGC and tells them he thinks Steven's been taken over by the Goa'uld symbiote.  The amulet is the only lead they have on him, although Daniel's not sure why Steven would take it.  Hammond suggests that maybe it's a Goa'uld device; Daniel says maybe, but he didn't find any trace of naquadah in any of the other artifacts.  If it's true that Steven is Osiris, then he's been out of the loop for awhile, not knowing what happened to Ra or Seth...he's probably looking for the Isis jar or the Stargate.  Remembering how Hathor came calling once upon a time ("Hathor"), Hammond's put the base on alert.

In the infirmary, Fraiser has synthesized the liquid from the canopic jar and has placed it in several darts.  It should be enough to act as a powerful sedative and knock the Goa'uld out, should they ever find him.  They want him alive; even if he's been in stasis for thousands of years, he's still a valuable source of information.  Hammond reminds them that their primary goal is to stop the Goa'uld with as little risk to their own lives s possible.  At that moment, the phone rings; they've got a trace on Steven.  He's boarded a flight to Cairo, heading back to the temple where they originally discovered the artifacts.  Hammond says he'll alert the Egyptian authorities but this needs to be kept low-profile.  Daniel will be accompanied by Carter and Fraiser in an effort to stop Osiris.

Cut to Egypt, where Daniel, Carter, and Fraiser are driving over the sand dunes toward the temple.  The area is hot and barren; Fraiser can see why they don't get any tourists there.  Carter announces that they have 10 more miles to their destination.

Meanwhile, in the tomb of Osiris, Steven enters and looks around in awe.  He pulls out the amulet and places it in a type of "keyhole."  A cabinet appears, and inside is a Goa'uld ribbon device.  Steven pulls it out and almost places it on his hand...when someone appears behind him.  He turns around, his expression fearful.  Oh dear, he's not Osiris after all.

Daniel et al arrive at the tomb.  He loads the dart gun (rather proficiently for an archaeologist...has Jack made him practice?) and the three sneak inside.  Steven is lying on the ground, bleeding, and Carter says she doesn't sense a Goa'uld inside him.  Fraiser reports the injured man is bleeding internally; if they get him out now, he should be all right.  Daniel asks Steven what happened, and Steven tells him he figured out the amulet was a key so he took it...he wanted to make the discovery.  Daniel was right all along, the amulet was over 10,000 years old.  Steven apologizes for not believing Daniel's theories.  Before they can leave, however, the real Osiris enters the tomb...Sarah!

Osiris/Sarah blasts Carter and Fraiser with the ribbon device, throwing them back against the wall.  Daniel tries to shoot him/her with the dart gun, but the dart is blocked by the ribbon device.  Daniel goes for a second dart, and while he's distracted, Osiris grabs him by the neck, demanding information about where the Stargate is and where his mate, Isis, is.  Refusing to answer, Daniel receives the description of "insolence," and is informed that this temple once was filled with worshippers.  Oh yeah?  Well, times have changed, buddy.  Daniel then lists off a rather extensive list of Goa'uld they've already killed...Ra, Hathor, Seth, Sokar....

Oddly enough, Osiris is pleased at this news.  Now he can rule the world unopposed.  Daniel says no, the people of Earth don't worship false gods anymore.  Osiris is ticked and turns the gold old ribbon device on Daniel while he fumbles for the second dart...how many times have we seen Daniel on the receiving end of that thing now?  Where is Isis!  She was trapped exactly like Osiris had been, but Daniel's not about to tell him more details than that.  Finally, he finds the dart and jabs it into Osiris.  He/she pulls it out and heads toward another Goa'uld panel in the tomb, activating it with the ribbon device.

Beneath the sands of the desert, we see a Goa'uld scout ship slowly rise to the surface, then hover over the tomb....

Osiris promises Daniel that he will return, and when he does the rivers of Earth will run red with blood.  Ring devices appear around to transport him/her to the scout ship.  Carter wakes up and shoots at Osiris, but she misses.  Osiris disappears, and the ship takes off.

Carter goes to Daniel to make sure he's all right; Daniel pounds the floor, clearly in pain from Osiris's ribbon device.  Half-jokingly, he tells ger sure, he's fine -- he thinks he's finally getting used to that thing.  Carter tells them that Osiris is gone.  Fraiser is also awake by this time and checks out Steven, saying if they take him to a hospital immediately, he should still be all right.   In the meantime, they need to come up with a story to tell Steven when he wakes.  Daniel's lost another old friend to the Goa'uld, they've unleashed yet another foe to the galaxy, and Earth will most likely be a target of Osiris sometime in the near future.  On that happy note, we cut to end credits.

Quotes:
Rayner: What are you doing here so late?
Jordon: Actually, I was just about to go down to the lab. We finally have a chance to do a resonance scan on the Osiris jar.
Rayner: Great, great.
Jordan: Another couple of weeks, and we never would have known what was inside.
Rayner: Well, we could always break the seal, and take a look. (Jordan looks at him sharply) Joking. Well, half joking.
Jordan: The Egyptian government expects these items returned intact. If we were in their place, I'm sure that we--
Rayner: Sir, you watch. The scan will reveal that that canopic jar contains the mummified heart of a three thousand year old pharaoh, and we will have to just hand it over.
Jordan: I know. I know.
Rayner: It's the find of a life time, Professor.
Jordan: Yes, yes it is. You coming?
Rayner: Yes, I just have a few things-- I'll see you down there.

Rayner: According to the police, there was a slow gas leak in the lab, and something must have caused a spark, the whole place went up, he was killed instantly.
Sarah: We would have called you, but nobody knew where to find you.
Daniel: That's, uh... that's okay.
Sarah: I'm glad you're here. So, how long has it been? Four years?
Daniel: Five.
Rayner: What have you been up to?
Daniel: Uh --- I've been busy.
Sarah: Really? I've looked for signs of you out on the fringes. There's been no papers, no research projects. It's like you fell of the face of the earth.
Daniel: Yeah, it is a little like that, isn't it?
Rayner: As I recall, the last time I saw you, you were giving a lecture to an empty room.
Daniel: Oh... well, it was full when I started.
Rayner: Well, maybe the world wasn't ready to hear that the pyramids were built by aliens, or was it men from Atlantis?
Sarah: Steven, please.
Daniel: Yes, Steven. Please.
Rayner (harshly): Why did you come? You managed to stay away all this time. If you're looking for closure, Daniel, I'd say you're a little late.

Sarah: Look, I have to admit, I thought you didn't come back because of me.
Daniel: No. No, that's not it.
Sarah: We could have ended it better than we did.
Daniel: Maybe. The truth is, I got caught up in something... incredible.
Sarah: You found something, didn't you? Something that supports your theory? Tell me. Come on.
Daniel: I can't.
Sarah: Daniel!
Daniel: Okay. Let's just say, that what the world knows about Ancient Egypt barely scratches the surface. The truth is more incredible than any of us ever imagined.

Hammond: I've decided to reschedule your next mission until Dr. Jackson returns. You're all long overdue for some personal leave.
O'Neill: Yes, sir, well the leaving part has been a little problem.
Hammond (amused): Oh, I think you'll make it to the front door before we realize we can't do without you. Dismissed.
O'Neill: Thank you, sir. (Carter heads for the door) Carter! You finally ready to take me up on that fishing trip?
Carter: Uh, actually, sir, I have a few projects on the go.
O'Neill: Oh, come on. Are you really trying to tell me you'd rather be in a dark, dank, dismal underground, than sit on a dock with your feet perched up, sippin' a cold one, and casting for that ever elusive crappy?
Carter (laughs at him): Strange as it may sound, sir... yes. Have a good time. (she leaves)
O'Neill: To each his own! Her. I meant her... I think. (looks at Teal'c and grins) So, Teal'c! This'll be great! Just you and me. What do you say? Come on! The loons! Don't forget the loons! (Teal'c looks disconcerted, almost a bit frightened)

O'Neill: Just so we're clear on this, sir. It's gonna be me, Teal'c, and the great outdoors. That means no cell phones, no fax machines, not another living soul for miles. We'll be unavailable, inaccessible.
Hammond: Incommunicado.
O'Neill: Minnesota, sir.
Hammond: I stand corrected.
O'Neill: If there's an emergency back at the base, you better plan ahead and tell me now. (the elevator doors start to close) If Thor needs me, he's going to have to beam me up! If it's the Tok'ra, forget it!

Curator: So what am I looking for?
Daniel: An artifact that went missing from the Stewart Expedition.
Curator: The Isis Jar.
Daniel: Uh, no, actually, I'm referring to a gold amulet with a little ebony, uh... (consults a piece of paper) it's listed as item 14C.
Curator: That was sent up to Dr. Jordan along with the rest of the artifacts.
Daniel: You're sure?
Curator: I sent it myself. I can show you the paperwork.
Daniel: No, Uh, what's this... uh Isis Jar you were talking about?
Curator: I'll show you. The damn crate was mislabeled when it came in. I only found it a couple of days ago.
Daniel: Uh, this one?
Curator: Oh, yeah. Never seen those symbols before, have you?
Daniel: Uh, yes. I'm gonna need to do a translation.
Curator: Well, if you need me, I'll be in the back cataloging the Polynesian death masks.

Carter (in her lab, tinkering on a motorcycle with Siler's help, when the phone rings): Carter.
Daniel: Sam, it's me.
Carter (wiping her hands on a rag): Hang on a sec. Thanks for your help, Sergeant.
Siler: Yeah, no sweat, Major. (he leaves)
Carter: Where are you?
Daniel: I'm still in Chicago. I'm in the basement of a museum with what appears to be an Egyptian burial jar--
Carter: Okay...
Daniel: Which may not be out of the ordinary in a museum, granted, but there's something else beside the usual hieroglyphs. There's a second set of markings. They're Goa'uld symbols.

Teal'c: There appears to be no fish here, O'Neill.
O'Neill: T, it's not about the actual fish themselves. The fish are not important in this context, it's about fish-ing. The act of fishing.
Teal'c (looking confused): I see. (a cell phone starts to ring)
O'Neill (looking at Teal'c in disbelief): You didn't.
Teal'c (stoically): By request of General Hammond.
O'Neill (grumbling): Go away. (gets the cell phone and answers) What?! (very sarcastically) Yes, Daniel. He's right here. Please hold.
Teal'c (taking the phone): Daniel Jackson. (listens) We have caught nothing. We are fishing.
Daniel: Right. Um, listen, I need a little help with a translation. I've got a line here that reads Hakorr kra terak shree.
Teal'c (swatting at a mosquito): Banished to oblivion.
Daniel: Right. Okay, uh... thank you.
Teal'c: If you require assistance, I would be more than happy to return to the SGC.
Daniel: No, thanks. I think I can take it from here.
Teal'c (quietly desperate): Are you certain?
O'Neill: Gimme that! Goodbye, Daniel!
Daniel: Uh, no, wait-- (O'Neill hangs up the phone, removes the battery, and throws it away, while Teal'c looks on in resignation)

Daniel: The Hieroglyphs identify the jar as belonging to Isis, who was the Egyptian Mother Goddess.
Carter: A Goa'uld?
Daniel: That's possible. See, Isis was a consort of Osiris, supposedly the first Pharaoh of Egypt. Now according to legend, he was placed in a magic box, and dumped into the Nile by his brother Seth.
Hammond: Now, that name I recognize.
Daniel: The Goa'uld symbols indicate that Isis and Osiris suffered some sort of punishment, or banishment.
Carter: Where to?
Daniel: I have no idea.
Hammond: Major, I want the contents analyzed.
Carter: Yes, sir.
Daniel: Uh, now I'd be careful if I were you. For all we know, it could be some sort of Goa'uld bobby-trap left behind by Osiris as a means of revenge. Also, it's... it's cursed, so--
Carter: Thanks for the warning.

Daniel: I needed some information on items from the Stewart Expedition. There's something missing.
Rayner: There's nothing missing.
Daniel: Uh, a canopic jar with some hieroglyphs, and some unusual markings.
Rayner: The Osiris Jar.
Daniel: Yes.
Rayner: Destroyed in the explosion.
Daniel: You're sure about that?
Rayner: Yes, positive.
Daniel: Okay. Well, what about this gold amulet?
Rayner (irritably): Daniel, if you're looking to get back together with Sarah, you know, that's your business, I really couldn't care less, but I do have a problem with you coming here and involving your self in my work.
Daniel: Don't you mean Doctor Jordan's work?
Rayner: No! My work! Sarah and I were Dr. Jordan's assistants. You haven't been involved since you walked out on him.
Daniel: I didn't walk out on him. I was... trying to protect him.
Rayner: You mean you distanced yourself in order to spare him the embarrassment of being associated with you. Daniel, you really should not have come back.

Carter: Preliminary analysis of the jar indicates the exterior is ordinary ceramic. It also appears as if the seal has been damaged.
Hammond: Any indication of what might be inside?
Carter: Well, hopefully, a computer enhanced MRI will tell us something. (runs the scan)
Hammond: Is that what I think it is?
Carter: Yes, sir! It's a goa'uld symbiote!

Daniel: Do you have any pictures of the Osiris Jar? The one that was destroyed in the explosion?
Sarah: Yeah, here. (hands him some photos)
Daniel: I can't make out the inscription around the collar.
Sarah: We were unable to identify the symbols, but Dr. Jordan copied them in his note book. Those markings are unlike anything we've ever seen before. They're not Egyptian.
Daniel: No, they're not Egyptian.
Sarah: So, what are they?
Daniel (playing dumb): What are they?
Sarah: You know! How?
Daniel: Let's just say I can't really go into it right now, but this is really important. Did Dr. Jordan do any kind of preliminary tests on the jar?
Sarah: Not that I know of, but he kept all his lab results on the computer.

Daniel: It's the results of the carbon dating analysis done on the ebony portion of item 14C.
Sarah: The missing gold amulet. Oh, my God! Daniel! It's over 10,000 years old. This means you were right all along.
Daniel: Yeah, I know.
Sarah: Egyptian civilization must be thousands of years older that we've ever assumed!
Daniel: Sarah... you can't tell anyone about this.
Sarah: What are you talking about? This is exactly the evidence you've been looking for. It completely validates your theories.
Daniel: Look, all we've got are the results of one carbon dating on a missing artifact.
Sarah: So, we can contact the technician who preformed the analysis. (she stops, looking surprised)
Daniel: What?
Sarah: Doctor Jordan wasn't the only one to get these results. (the computer screen shows that Rayner also got the email) Steven.

Fraiser: By all rights, that Goa'uld symbiote should be a dried-up, desiccated husk, but instead, it's in perfect condition. Now, at first, we thought it had been preserved, like a specimen in formaldehyde, but now, we are not so sure.
Hammond: What do you mean?
Carter: Well, sir, the outside of the jar is ceramic. But the inside is a technologically advanced containment vessel. There's a tiny naquada power source that's designed to emit a low-level electrical charge.
Hammond: Why?
Carter: Well, we can't be certain yet, sir, but I would guess that the jar is some sort of stasis chamber.
Fraiser: From what we've been able to gather, sir, we think that the symbiote was alive when it was placed inside.
Hammond: Why would it allow itself to be removed from its host, and placed in stasis?
Carter: I don't believe it had a choice, Sir.
Fraiser: You see, the liquid inside the jar seems to have sedative properties. Now, if it's maintained at the proper temperatures, and if it is provided with sufficient electrical charge, it could probably keep the symbiote alive indefinitely.
Hammond: Then, why is it dead?
Carter: The seal was broken, presumably during transport.
Hammond: Major, if what you're saying is true, and the second jar survived the trip unscathed...
Carter: Yes, sir! There could be a Goa'uld out there.

Daniel: Sarah, there have been three deaths already.
Sarah: Three?
Daniel: They found the body of the technician who did the carbon dating on the amulet.
Sarah: Daniel, I know Steven. He may be capable of a lot of things, but he's no murderer.
Daniel: Well, you may not know him as well as you think you do, at least not anymore.
Sarah (irritated): What's that supposed to mean? Oh, let me guess, you can't explain, right?
Daniel: Sarah--
Sarah (losing her temper): Well, what do you expect, Daniel? You show up after five years, but you can't say where you've been! You've got this mysterious ability to be able to read an ancient language nobody's ever seen before, but you can't explain how! Then, when we finally find the evidence that's able to vindicate you to the entire archeological community, you want to cover it up. What is going on? (calmer) This is me, Daniel.
Daniel: I know.
Sarah: Then, why can't you trust me? What have you been doing for the past five years?
Daniel: I want to tell you, Sarah. I do, believe me. I wish you could see some of the things I've seen, but the world is not ready to know, not yet.
Sarah: I'm not asking you to tell the world, I'm asking you to tell me. This is my life's work, too, Daniel. (he turns to leave) So, you're working for the government, what? Daniel!
Daniel: I'm sorry.
Sarah: You're just going to disappear again, aren't you?
Daniel: Yes.
Sarah: I think Steven was right. You never should have come back.

Fraiser: I managed to synthesize the liquid from the jar, so on its own, it should act as a powerful sedative. One dart should be more than enough to knock out an adult Goa'uld.
Carter: Do we really want this thing alive?
Daniel: Well, even though it's been in stasis for several thousand years, it could still be a valuable source of information.
Hammond: I want you to hold that option in reserve. Your priority is to stop the Goa'uld with minimum risk to yourselves.
Fraiser (answering the phone): Frasier. Yes, He's right here. Sir?
Hammond (taking the phone): Hammond. Yes, all right, thank you. (hangs up) We got a lead on Steven Rayner. He boarded a flight to Cairo four hours ago.
Daniel: He could be headed back to the temple in Egypt where the jars were discovered. If we move fast, we could head him off, sir.

Daniel (seeing Rayner unconscious in the temple): It's Steven!
Carter: I'm not sensing anything. He's not Goa'uld. (Fraiser moves to examine him)
Daniel: Steven.
Fraiser: He's bleeding internally.
Daniel: Steven, it's me.
Rayner: Daniel?
Daniel: What happened?
Rayner: I took the amulet. It's over ten thousand years old. Your theory was right all along. I'm sorry. (gasps with pain) Ah!
Fraiser: Just take it easy, okay? I need you to hold still.
Daniel: It's okay, she's a friend. What about the jar?
Rayner: Huh?
Daniel: The Osiris Jar. Did you open it?
Rayner: No.
Daniel: Why did you come here?
Rayner: I figured out the amulet was a key. There's a hidden chamber. I wanted to make the discovery.
Fraiser: Daniel, we have to get him out of here.
Daniel: Steven, who did this to you?
Sarah (stepping forward from the shadows, eyes glowing, speaking in a goa'uld voice): I did!

Osiris (throwing Daniel to the floor): Insolence. This temple was once filled with worshippers.
Daniel: Yeah? Well, times have changed.
Osiris: So I have observed. Where is my brother, Setesh?
Daniel: Ah, you mean Seth. Uh, he's dead. We killed him.
Osiris: You lie.
Daniel: No, no, we also killed Ra, and Hathor, and uh, who else? Um, Sokar.
Osiris: Then you have done me a great favor. I will rule without opposition.
Daniel: No, no, you won't rule at all, see we don't worship false gods anymore.
Osiris (contemptuously): You have come far, it is true. But you are still weak. Even now you are torn between your desire to kill me, and your concern for my host, she who freed me from my long sleep. What do you know of my queen?
Daniel: Um, she was trapped, like you. We have the jar.
Osiris: Where is it?
Daniel: I'm not gonna tell you.
Osiris: You are mistaken. (She uses the ribbon device on him, and he grimaces in pain, trying to get a tranquilizer dart.) Where is my queen? Tell me! (Daniel manages to stick a dart into her side, and the ribbon device shuts off) What is this? What have you done? (Osiris removes the dart) You will pay for this impudence. (Osiris opens the hidden panel, and above the temple, a space ship rises from the sand) Make no mistake, Osiris will return, and the rivers of the Earth will run red with blood.

Carter: You all right?
Daniel (gasping for breath): Oh, yeah! Yeah! I think I'm... getting used to that thing!
Fraiser: Where's Osiris?
Carter: Gone.
Daniel: Steven?
Fraiser: If we get him out of here right now, I think he'll make it.
Daniel: In the meantime I guess we'd better... think up a story to tell him.
